Poet's Corner
Remember

I guess everyone has a section for 9/11; I wrote these at the time.  If anyone has something to share, I hope to eventually make a section with other people's work.

These Tears

These tears I cry are not for me
This pain I feel should not be.
My faith in human decency is at once
Shaken and reaffirmed.
For, in the midst of tragedy and chaos,
There are those who find it in themselves to remain
Calm and dignified; sacrificing their lives that others may live.
These tears I cry are for the thousands who died.
This pain I feel is for those who must live without them.

A Month of Reflection: Sept. 11-Oct. 11, 2001

Things are better now; time has passed.
The grief still haunts us and the pain lingers, but we are healing.
The tragedy is behind us; the loss is not.
As war is upon us, upon the world, people of every type come together.
Uncertainty over the future colours our determination to bring justice and peace.
The passage of time does not remove this atrocity from our minds,
or dull the pain of those who mourn loved ones.
The rest of the world tiptoes back to a shadowed semblance of reality,
an illusion of normalcy; all the while knowing in our souls that
things will never be the same.
We have been irrevocably altered; now, the question is, can we transcend
this altered state of being and triumph over hatred and evil to emerge
stronger and better?
Will we have the courage to come out of this kinder people?
We have the potential to become a world of peace; now we must live up to it.
